Frequently Asked Questions
Effectiveness of NeoGraft® Hair Restoration
Is transplanted hair permanent?
Yes! Once the transplanted follicles have settled into their new locations on the scalp, they will continue to grow like your normal hair. The transplanted strands are your new hair and will keep their characteristics permanently.
When will I see my hair grow?
New hair growth begins to appear from transplanted follicles in four to six months. Hair growth varies, so don’t be impatient if your hair takes longer to grow! Most patients enjoy a full head of natural hair 12 to 18 months after their procedure.
Will people be able to tell that I’ve had hair loss treatment?
No. Your hair will look natural because it is natural. Right after the procedure, you may have some tiny scabbing in the transplanted area for five to seven days, but the scabs can be concealed with your existing hair or hidden by wearing a cap, which you may do immediately following treatment.
How many hair transplant sessions will I need?
The number of sessions needed will vary depending on your current extent of baldness and your desired result. Covering a small bald patch may only require one or two sessions while replanting a whole head of hair can take more.
Can I have someone else’s hair transplanted?
Unfortunately, no. Your body would not recognize someone else’s follicles and would reject them. NeoGraft works so effectively because the body recognizes the transplanted follicles as familiar rather than foreign objects, which produces hair growth naturally.
Am I going to have enough hair?
The answer to this question depends on what you consider “enough.” The procedure works by transplanting working hair follicles from areas with thicker hair to areas that are in need of more coverage. While we cannot create full coverage using only a small number of working follicles, we can guarantee that our technique allows for optimal hair density and will allow you to grow your own natural hair without invasive surgery or chemicals.
The Follicular Transplant Procedure
Does the hair transplant hurt?
No. We use a specially formulated local anesthetic, which lets you experience minimal discomfort.
Will I be asleep for the procedure?
You are not required to be asleep. You will receive an anesthetic and optional sedation to relax you. Most of our patients enjoy chatting or reading or iPad use during their treatment, but you may opt to fall asleep if you wish.
How many hairs survive?
In a properly performed NeoGraft hair transplant procedure, more than 95% of hair follicles survive. That’s more reliable than traditional hair replacement surgery!
Post-Procedure Expectations
How long will it take for me to recover from the hair transplant procedure?
Your scalp should heal within 2-5 days. After one night of sleep, you may resume most of your daily activities. Most people choose to go back to work in two to five days.
Are there any visible scars?
Because the hair follicle transplant process isn’t invasive, you will receive no linear scarring. Some patients may experience tiny dot discolorations, but these are usually undetectable, even with a closely cropped haircut.
Can I drive home after the procedure?
If you opt to receive sedation, we require that you arrange transportation home. Some of our patients do not opt for sedation and may drive home themselves. It’s your choice.
Will I need to wear a bandage?
A light dressing is placed after the surgery. This can be removed later that day or the next day. After the procedure, you will leave the clinic with your hair styled the same way it was when you arrived.
When can I wash my hair?
You can wash your hair the day after your procedure very gently with supplied products.
Should I wear a hat?
You do not need to wear a hat after your procedure unless it will make you feel more comfortable. We do, however, recommend covering your head during the first three months if you will be exposing the transplanted follicles to prolonged direct sunlight.
When can I go back to work?
It depends on your type of work. Office work can be performed in 1-4 days. Physical laborers may wish to wait longer. Most individuals choose to take several days to a week off from work. Those engaged in outdoor work such as landscaping are also advised to wear a hat while working to protect the transplanted follicles from direct sunlight.
When can I resume my physical training?
We recommend that you avoid strenuous activities for one week in order to prevent any accidental injury or bleeding. Listen to your own body and return to an exercise regime when you are ready.
